The meeting was called to order Budget

  • Kennedy School night $2400
  • Teachers asking difference between classroom enrichment and supplies. Used to be separate, but now are blended together.
    • There is always an option for a teacher to present a need to the PTA if it goes beyond budget
    • End of May is the deadline to turn in receipts
  • Will be a budget meeting this summer to set next year’s budget that anyone is invited to. Will be announced.
  • The money earned this year is what is available for budget next year.
  • Budget approved

 

New Business

  • Guest Speakers:
    • Darren – running the construction this summer. 3rd yr of $480 million bond
      • Seismic bracing- tying walls to the roof of gym and cafeteria
        • Applied for grant for classrooms, but it was not approved—will do in the future
      • Upgraded insulation
      • New room with improved drain systems
      • New science classroom w/ADA upgrades
      • Exhaust vents replaced
      • Will take all summer to get it all done, mandated to work 6 day weeks. June 17th to August 21st building will be closed to everyone. Site will be fenced off, leaving playground. The basketball court will be a staging area.
      • Garden: will be limited access (one day a week), will provide timers and soaker hoses. Provided a lock for gate. Are looking into improving lights.
    • Paige Parker—Department of community engagement and public affairs
      • Offering help with community outreach.
        • Will be a workshop to get our input, collaborative process. What do we want people to know about our school? Any misinformation do we want to correct?
        • Optional
        • Put together marketing information --needs to be ready by October to be available for next year’s lottery
          • Will be translated in several languages
        • Can help with presentations to various community organizations
        • This was first year with low income priority in lottery, but applicant pool needs to be more diverse to meet goals.
        • We will get approval of information that goes out.
      • Meisha Geisler -- Vice-Principal’s update
        • Need help moving: packing, taking down bulletin boards, etc. Friday June 12 and Saturday June 13 teachers would like help moving to get ready for construction
          • Kristie is creating a Google doc with a list of all the things that need to be moved.
          • Still waiting to hear when Headstart will move out
        • Report card will not have comments because so busy moving
        • 2 site council openings.
          • Needs to have equal numbers staff and community members
          • 3:15-4:15, day of the week negotiable
        • Art teacher hired k-8
        • Midlevel will have 2 electives a day

          • Spanish (7th and 8th only)

          • 2 core classes and one elective in both morning and afternoon
