The Creative Science School is a focus option Portland Public School for children in grades K-8. Students are encouraged to be independent thinkers, learners and problem solvers. Our students develop and demonstrate the ability to create questions, formulate solutions and apply results throughout their lives.
Creative Science School teachers guide and assist the children in learning through experience and experiments. Our students develop and demonstrate the ability to create questions, formulate solutions and apply the results throughout their lives.
We are happy that you have chosen to explore us for your child’s educational experience. We are a community of students, parents and teachers all working together to make the school a strong, successful and meaningful educational option.
As teachers we are dedicated to providing a constructivist approach to learning. This means your child will be immersed in curriculum that asks questions, encourages investigation, promotes cooperative learning, develops problem solving language and celebrates creativity. We strive to create a climate where mutual respect between teachers, students and parents is the foundation; and learning how to learn and think is both a daily goal and opportunity. Our teacher team meets together at least twice a month to support each other in our goals.
The parent community plays an vital role in CSS. Parent involvement is essential, and there are many ways to become involved. We welcome help in the classroom, working with small groups, helping to organize classroom material, gathering supplies or filling Friday folders. There are also many opportunities outside the classroom (from working on the auction, to making a new marketing video) to make CSS an outstanding and vibrant place to learn, play, think, make lasting contributions and long standing friendships.
WHAT PARENTS SAY
“I love the way the teacher takes one subject (water) and explores it thoroughly (properties of water, boats, sea animals) and through all the disciplines (art, song/poetry, science, math).”
